About Mariana Barragan

Mariana is currently a PhD student (Dean Scholar) in the Social Research Methodology program at UCLA. She holds a Master of Arts in International Comparative Education from Stanford University and Bachelor and Master Degrees in Economics from ITAM in Mexico. She has broad, mixed methods research experience in Economics of Education, Education Policy and Economic Development. She has strong skills in the use of quantitative and quasi-experimental research methods. Her research interests include public schools’ effectiveness and efficiency in closing achievement gaps, teacher labor markets and educational reform. She has robust experience in policy design and implementation gained after working for private and public entities such as Google and the Ministry of Education in Mexico. She was recently awarded the National Youth Award from the government of Mexico for her contributions to the country's political culture and democracy.
