Services
Inter Pipeline operates in four primary divisions: Transportation, Facilities Infrastructure, Marketing, and Heartland. These divisions handle diverse operations, from the transportation of petroleum products through extensive pipelines to processing facilities and petrochemical production. The Heartland business focuses on enhancing polymer experiences and expanding the value chain within Alberta's resource sector.
Heartland Petrochemical Complex
Inter Pipeline's Heartland Petrochemical Complex is North America's only integrated single-site propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and polypropylene (PP) complex. This facility features a nameplate capacity to produce 525,000 tonnes of polypropylene annually, playing a key role in diversifying Alberta’s resource sector and adding value to the region’s petrochemical industry.
Pipeline Systems
Inter Pipeline operates seven pipeline systems, including Cold Lake, Corridor, and Polaris. The Cold Lake system is the largest transporter of bitumen in the Cold Lake area. The Corridor pipeline provides transportation for the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP), while the Polaris system moves diluent from Edmonton to Alberta’s Cold Lake and Athabasca areas. The Boreal Pipeline connects facilities in Northern Alberta to the Alberta Industrial Heartland with a throughput capacity of 43,000 b/d of ethane-plus mixture.
Processing Facilities
Inter Pipeline manages various significant processing facilities. The Cochrane Extraction Plant, one of the largest in Canada, has a design capacity of 2.5 bcf/d of natural gas to recover 100,000 b/d of NGL. The Pioneer I and Pioneer II offgas plants recover 40,000 b/d of ethane-plus mixture. The Redwater Olefinic Fractionator processes ethane-plus into diverse product streams including an ethane-ethylene mixture, propane, and polymer-grade propylene.
Community Initiatives
Inter Pipeline engages in several community-focused initiatives. The company partners with The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) on the Plastics Research in Action (PRIA) initiative and supports the APPLE Schools program to promote healthy lifestyles among students. Through its community investment program, iCare, Inter Pipeline aids charitable organizations focused on providing basic life essentials. The company is also a member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) and has received recognition as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and one of Alberta’s Top Employers for multiple years.
